History of Hotel Los Volcanes at Alajuela
Nestled in the heart of the city, it is a true oasis just 10 minutes away from the SJO- San Jose/Juan Santamaria International Airport.
The original tropical Victorian home, which is now known as Hotel Los Volcanes at Alajuela, was the private family residence belonging to the Llobet family and was built at the turn of the 20th century.
During the war between Costa Rica and the Southern Confederacy of America during the 1850's the home was used as a hospital for injured Costa Rican soldiers. The Red Cross set up operations in the many rooms of the Victorian home. The Llobert family was proud to be able to support the efforts of the war.
The home also served as a kindergarten and was run by the sister of the Llobet family.
In 1998 the journey to convert this historic home into a charming boutique hotel began. With the hotel's proximity to the Poas Volcano and the over 200 volcanic formations in Costa Rica, the family decided to honor Costa Rica as a land of Volcanoes, and name the new hotel Hotel Los Volcanes.
Hotel Los Volcanes at Alajuela is now entering its second decade of operation. The original family who grew the hotel's reputation decided to move onto other ventures and in 2018 sold the hotel. Under new management has come new visions and ideas but continue with the same attitude of service and hospitality. Updated rooms in clean crisp white with pops of bright colors bring a Costa Rican flair.
